(Underwriters Laboratories)

UL stands for Underwriters Laboratories, a leading non-profit organization in the U.S. industrial safety certification sector established in 1894, serves to establish and certify standards for safety, including fire safety, and is the most prestigious safety certification body in the world, including the U.S.

It is a product developed with the goal of UL certification and secures product competitiveness that is differentiated from existing products.

  • For the first time among the fire-resistant structure certification products of the Korea Institute of Construction Technology, the fire-resistant test for 3 hours passed below 30mm (29mm).
  • It was implemented with the minimum coating thickness with the highest performance among the world-class UL-certified products.

What is UL263?

  • Among UL's various specifications, "Fire Tests of Building Construction and Materials", i.e., performance standards and test methods for various types of fire resistive materials
  • Among them, the spray-type materials such as Esscoat corresponds to the Spray-Applied Fire Resistance Materials (SFRM).

UL Certification Process for Steel Beams and Columns

Beam
  • 1. After integrating the beam and the deck plate, concrete is placed and manufactured into a structure, fireproof test shall be conducted continuously for 1 to 4 hours, and the result shall show a constant tendency.
  • 2.With both ends of the beam constrained, perform a fireproof test with the maximum load that the actual structure can handle.
Column
  • 1. Unlike in Korea, a fireproof test is performed for 1 to 4 hours by applying different fireproof coating thicknesses to the columns of various sizes.
  • 2. Measure the specific heat, density, thermal conductivity, and other physical properties of the coating material and conduct a fireproof simulation using the results.
  • 3. The actual fireproof test results and simulation results using physical property values shall be passed only when it is consistent having the tendency, and can get a formula for calculating the coating thickness for all types of members can be obtained.

Esscoat Construction Method

Preparation for work
  • Operation timingIn principle, construction shall be carried out at the time of completion of basic construction for anchors, hangers, ceiling structures, etc. necessary for all DUCT works, piping works, etc.
  • Surface treatmentIn principle, dust, release agents, rust, oil, grease, paint, etc. that may impair adhesion to the surface to be constructed shall be removed. In addition, since adhesion is reduced when construction of the condensation generating area, construction is performed after removing the moisture.
Construction method
  • Measures shall be taken to ensure that the work period, surface treatment, and on-site occupational conditions do not interfere with construction.
  • During construction, the COMPRESSOR pressure shall be 5±1 kg/cm, and the air volume shall be 0.4 mM/MIN or more.
  • The distance between the tip of the nozzle and the construction surface shall be 30 to 60 cm, and the construction angle shall be maintained at 90°, but construction of not more than 70° shall be prohibited except in special case
  • The mixed material shall be constructed with reference to the nozzle tip 10 mm. However, when changing the nozzle diameter depending on the working conditions, the amount of construction work or the roughness of the construction surface may vary.
  • For mixing the product and water, Mix Esscoat PC and water in a weight ratio of 1:1.0 to 1.2 for 2 to 3 minutes.
  • The mixed product must be used within 30 minutes, and after 30 minutes, it can be reused when a small amount of water is added and mixed again to produce a viscosity similar to the initial one.
  • However, discard products that have passed 1 hour.
  • Esscoat PC can be constructed having certified thickness with one-time construction. (3 hour flange end construction caution)
  • Construction thickness shall be measured with a thickness measuring gauge and shall be constructed with a thickness greater than the approved thickness.
  • Over-construction during curing may cause discoloration, so it should be avoided, and the area where the falling or the crack occurs is, supplementary work is carried out in consideration of the degree of curing.
  • If necessary, it may be decorated with dirt hands or plastering tools immediately after construction.
Curing

Rapid drying should be avoided in places with adequate ventilation, and the curing period is as shown in the table below.
